SUSTAINABILITY

ENVIRONMENT / PEOPLE / MANUFACTURING

Our Commitment to Sustainability

For more than two centuries, we have worked with natural, renewable, biodegradable fibres, shaping a manufacturing culture that values restraint, longevity, and respect for the landscapes that support our craft. Sustainability is not a campaign for us; it is a continuation of the principles that have guided Johnstons of Elgin since 1797.

Certified B Corporation

We are proud to be a Certified B Corporation, joining a global community of businesses committed to balancing profit with purpose. This recognition reflects our ongoing work to improve environmental performance, support our people, and strengthen the communities connected to our mills in Elgin and Hawick.

ENVIRONMENT & ANIMAL WELFARE

Animal Welfare & the Environment

Our fibres begin in fragile ecosystems. We work closely with partners who prioritise grassland preservation, animal welfare, and responsible grazing practices. Across our supply chain, we continue to reduce carbon emissions, minimise hazardous chemicals, and protect the environments that sustain cashmere, merino, and vicuña.

EMPLOYEES & COMMUNITY

People, Skills & Community

People remain at the centre of our story. As the largest textile manufacturer to sign up to the Living Wage Foundation, we ensure fair work across our operations. Our commitment extends to apprenticeships, skills development, and long-term support for the communities that have shaped our mills for generations.

SUSTAINABLE MANUFACTURING

Sustainable Manufacturing

We believe the most sustainable choice is to buy less and buy better. Our products are made to last, crafted with precision and care, and designed to biodegrade naturally at the end of their life. We continue to refine our processes across water use, plastics reduction, manufacturing waste, and circularity.
